CSPB Eastern Regional meetings are traditionally held each year in early December. This year,
the Eastern Regional meeting will be combined with the Plant Development Workshop and will be
hosted at Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo on Friday, November 30th and Saturday, December
1st. In the past, CSPB conferences held in Waterloo have been well-attended due to its central
location. Wilfrid Laurier University has hosted successful meetings in its comfortable and
convenient facilities and organizers have always taken tremendous care of conference participants.
This year also marks the 50th anniversary of the Department of Biology at Wilfrid Laurier University.
CSPB Eastern Regional members can anticipate an exceptional meeting featuring high-quality science.
The theme for the meeting will be "Symbiosis". Plenary speaker on Friday evening will be Dr. Mary
Rumpho-Kennedy who will present on photosynthetic sea slugs and plenary speaker on Saturday will be
Dr. Jeffrey Palmer who will talk about horizontal gene transfer in plant mitochondria. Detailed
conference program will be posted at later date at CSPB web-site.
We encourage talks and posters from all areas of plant biology and of interest to CSPB members. As
usual, we especially encourage students to contribute their presentations and compete for the Director’s
award for the best oral and poster presentations.
